GABRIELLE COLLINS

I find art which holds deeper, greater, hidden meanings extremely evocative. I have this fixation with creating works which are contradictions and use this idea of the hidden. I want the viewer to be enticed and intrigued; as if they are looking down the Rabbit Hole with me. Not only does the hidden excite me, but also the exploration of new materials is something I find most enticing. I often gather scattered, reclaimed wood which originates from disregarded pallets in combination with the flickering light of projection to create large scale installation pieces. The projections consist of home movies rescued from old video cameras and phones (outdated technology) in order to create this half glimpsed series of images and films of socials events, holidays and family birthdays. All in combination a sense of nostalgia is created. This action of using new materials is like play time to me, as if I am once again a child. The importance of this is becoming more necessary and important when creating work, I have an abundance of childhood memories and objects and they continuously influence and occur within my works.
